“It Goes Without Saying”

Psalm 87: 1: “His foundation is in the holy mountains.” This psalm is somewhat unique, in that is the only one (out of a hundred and fifty) that begins with a third person possessive pronoun. Psalm 91 begins with ’he,’ and Psalm 125 starts off with ‘those,’ but by beginning Psalm 87 with a pronoun that has no introduction to tell us who this “His” is he’s talking about, the psalmist runs the risk of being confusing or unclear. But it’s not really, is it, because who else’s foundation could be in the holy mountains? Notice, His glory starts in the mountaintops, and it rises up from there. That could only be the Lord!
