“For the Truth”
2 Corinthians 13: 8: “For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth.” In closing his epistle the shepherd shares with his flock his greatest desire: truth. All the strong words he writes here are for this purpose, not to justify or defend himself, but to keep the people in the sheltering arms of truth. Every sacrifice, every conflict in a life filled with sacrifice and conflict was “for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness.” (Psalm 45: 4) In this the great apostle rode on in splendor and majesty – perhaps not in the eyes of his detractors, but certainly in the eyes of the only ones that matter: the eyes of God.
