“Explaining the Explanation”


Matthew 13: 36b, 37a: “And His disciples came to Him, saying, ‘Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.’ And He answered and said …” The parable was the hidden part; the explanation should make everything clear and plain. But lots of people try to make the explanation as symbolic as the parable. Thus, for them, there are no real sons of the Kingdom or sons of the evil one; we’re all pretty much the same. There’s no devil, there’s no end of the age. But Jesus was explaining, which means, for the most part, literal language. We have to accept it for what He said it was!
