“Miseries Unknown”

Ecclesiastes 7: 8, 10: “The end of a matter is better than its beginning; patience of spirit is better than haughtiness of spirit … Do not say, ‘Why is it that the former days were better than these?’ For it is not from wisdom that you ask about this.” In the midst of a pretty depressing chapter (i.e., “The day of one’s death is better than the day of one’s birth”, v. 1) Solomon makes a pretty good point here. Man is a strange creature – he pines for days which happened before he was born and compares his present troubles with those he has never experienced. The best approach: Just trust that God is working out everything “exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.” (Ephesians 3: 20) Because He is.
