“Not Your Friend”

2 Kings 18: 29, 30: “Thus says the King, ‘Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you from my hand; nor let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, “The Lord will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”’” Here’s a good example of what we learned yesterday. Rabshakeh the emissary of the king of Assyria was pretending to be a friend of Jerusalem, bringing to them an offer too good to refuse. But whenever anyone (up to and including the devil) tells you faith in God is useless, it is not your friend. It’s a wolf licking his chops, and the sooner you rebuke them, the better.
